Rybnik received PLN 45,5 million from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management as part of the “Green Public Transport” competition for the purchase of 20 hydrogen buses with the length of 20 metre. The first buses should appear on the streets of Rybnik in the second quarter of 2023.
Pursuant to the Act on electromobility and alternative fuels, municipalities are obliged to use an appropriate number of vehicles that do not emit harmful gases. Hydrogen buses do not emit any pollutants and the only by-product is water vapor.
A private investor plans to build and operate a publicly accessible filling station for hydrogen-powered cars and buses in Rybnik in the first quarter of 2023. The station is built next to the Municipal Transport Station at 6 Budowlanych Street.
In April 2022, 23 electric buses ran into Rybnik streets. There are also 12 gas-powered buses running through the streets of Rybnik.
More and more municipalities are investing in hydrogen technologies or buying hydrogen buses because they know that hydrogen will be one of the leading fuels in public transport in the future.
Awareness of the zero-emission nature of hydrogen-powered cells, the lower investment in charging infrastructure considering both the time to charge and the longer ranges compered to electric vehicles gives hope for the rapid and efficient growth of hydrogen-based transport.
